He was born in 1957 in Menemen. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education at T.E.D. After completing at Ankara College, he graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 1980. In 1985, he completed his PhD in the Orthodontics Department of the same Faculty. He has been working as a Dentist in his own practice since 1985.

Koray Özalp is an important collector, recent history researcher and writer, who has received various awards in many national and international philatelic competitions, and is the founder and president of Çankaya Philatelic Research Association.

In addition to many collections he has made for more than 25 years, there are thousands of rare postcards, photocards, photographs, books and various documents related to Ankara, especially the Ankara Postal History collection covering the years 1840-1960. He has been awarded many Gold medals in European and World philately competitions with his collections “From Angora to Ankara” and “Ottoman Fingerprints in the Postal History”.
